Any Questions?

Bad Grade Blues

Question

I study hard at school, but my grades still aren't very good. Can you help me?

Answer

Studying is important to having good grades. You will find out that some students have to study a lot and others don’t. The difference has to do with how you learn. I know from having three daughters, each of them learns in a different way. Some students learn more when they hear the information; others, when they write it. Some people learn better by doing a project.

Tell your parents, teachers, or a guidance counselor about your disappointment in your grades. Ask them to help you find a new way to study.

Something else to consider—are you getting enough sleep? How involved are you with activities outside of school and church? Perhaps your grades aren’t what you’d like them to be because you’re busy with other activities or not getting enough sleep.

Do you get upset with yourself for not getting a certain grade or say to yourself, I can’t do it? These thoughts can be distracting and interfere with concentration. Always remember: You are valued and loved because of who you are… and not what you can do (Jeremiah 31:3).
