Devotion Tips
Question
I'm having trouble making time for daily devotions and reading my Bible. Can you give me any suggestions?
Answer
As Christians many of us struggle with devotions because we really don't understand what devotions are about. Devotions are about becoming more attached to Jesus—being friends with Him.
I'm sure you have a good friend. How did you become friends? You probably did this by spending time talking, listening, e-mailing, thinking, and observing each other. By doing all of this, you and your friend may even think and act alike! Having a friend like this is likely to help you to be more confident and strong in difficult situations. It's the same with Jesus. When we're attached to Him, we can face situations in our lives with a lot more love, hope, and confidence.
So when you think of devotions don't just limit it to one or two activities. Devotions can be much more than that! As you ride the bus to school you can talk to Jesus. Did you know that while you're waiting for your mom to pick you up from lessons, you could write a letter to Jesus. Listening to Christian music while you're going to sleep or cleaning your room can help you to become good friends too. And, of course, spending one on one time like prayer and reading your Bible always helps a friendship with Jesus to grow. The more time you spend with Him the more time you'll want to spend with Him. The best part of all is when you become closer to Jesus, you'll be more like Him… full of love, joy, peace, and wisdom!
