Moving Tips
Question
My family will be moving to another state this summer because of my dad's job. I am really scared and I don't want to leave my friends. What should I do?
Answer
Any major change can be scary, especially a move to another state. It is neat that you are able to admit you are scared and may even be sad. Being honest with your feelings can be a very healthy way to cope with change.
You can do a number of things that may help you adjust to a new situation. Before you move, research all the neat things about the state you will be moving to. What you discover may be quite exciting, especially if you get to visit some of the places and participate in the local activities that you've researched.
Next, make a memory box or book to celebrate your life and friendships you currently have. You can also plan a small and simple memory party either at your home or at school during a lunch period. You can write a letter to each of your friends telling them what you will remember most about them and then give them a copy of the letter or something you've made so they can remember you too.
When you get to your new home get involved! This includes setting up your room, visiting the library, and most of all getting involved with activities in your new church.
Just remember, moving is hard and it will take a while for you to feel comfortable in your new surroundings. The best thing is that Jesus understands what it is like to leave friends, and you can talk to Him wherever you are and whenever you want.
