Any Questions?

Should I be Wearing a Bra?

Question

Should I be wearing a bra?

Answer

One of the best ways to know if you need to wear a bra is when you find yourself being self-conscious as you begin to develop into a young woman. Are you uncomfortable wearing certain types of shirts because your breasts show through the shirt? If so, it may be time for you to wear a bra.

The first thing you need to do is tell your mom or another adult family member that you are feeling self-conscious about your chest and would like to start wearing a bra. If she disagrees, you may ask if she would consider allowing you to start with a sports bra.

Sometimes girls buy bras to wear because they are self-conscious but then when they begin wearing one, they are worried that others will make fun of them. To help with this uneasy feeling, bras that are skin-colored or that match the colors of your clothing work great. Another option is to buy a Lycra, spaghetti-strap shirt with a shelf bra built in. A bra like this will make you feel comfortable and is stylish too. If you’re worried about people seeing your bra and teasing you, don’t purchase bras with polka dots, animal print, or neon colors.

Keep in mind that each person’s body develops at a different rate. At the same time, you will vary in size as you go through the many stages of life. So, don’t be scared if your friends are wearing bras and you’re not or if you’re wearing a bra and they’re not. The most important thing is that you celebrate that you’re growing into the young woman God created you to be! You can do this by buying a bra that you feel comfortable in.
